Badugi: Not Just a Poker VarietyBadugi is a variety of poker that originated from Asia. Presently it has become popular around the world and it is played both on land-based and online casinos. Badugi poker is easy particularly for poker players who have already mastered the original game. Badugi is played with four cards and three draws. The player who has the lowest hand gets the pot. Badugi is quite different with the other poker variations since the object of the game is to have the least hand; which could be a combination of cards of different rank and suites. If a player has this combination, then it's a badugi. Four cards will be dealt per player starting with the small blind. The cards are dealt on a clockwise manner, and one card at a time will be dealt to each player. Betting will depend on the type of badugi a player has. The first type of badugi is the Limit Badugi where all bets are incremented. The player is allowed to bet the lowest wager on the firs and second rounds. The third and fourth round, the player can wager the highest. Limit badugi allows four bets per round. Another type of badugi poker, where incremental bets are done, is the Pot Limit badugi. Players are allowed to increase their bets so long as the amount is not lower the minimum wager and not higher than the current pot money. The big blind determines the minimum bet. For instance, the small blind bets $4 and the big blind bets $8. One player calls $8 worth of bet. The other player can opt to wager as much as $8. The current pot value is $4 + $8 + $8. The other player may also opt to wager $4 + $8 + $8 + $8 since the maximum amount of wager is dependent on the amount of the current pot plus the first call. Therefore the maximum bet is $28. For Half Pot badugi, the process is quite similar to Pot Limit. The difference with half pot badugi is that the player can only raise half of the current pot's amount. For example, the pot has $2 + $4 +$4; the first call is $4 + $2 + $4 + $4, and half of it is $7. The next player can raise $4 + $7, or $11. The big blind determines the lowest allowable wager. Badugi poker may be a little bit different, but the game is a bit challenging and exciting just as the other poker variants. |
